Smartphones, a great gift of this fast forwarding technical, modern era. Can anyone think of how this one materialistic thing could ever make us dependent on itself for each and everything?? From ordering food to playing games, from looking for information to scrolling reels. We do everything on our smartphones. We check our phones multiple times in a day, is it really worth it?? Spending times more with this device rather than our family and friends, how is it changing the way we think or want to spend life!
How Smartphones Affect Your Memory
Though smartphone is a boon for everyone who wants to achieve their goals and are using it for that purpose. But what about the ones who doomlessly scroll through it almost the whole day?? It may seem like it gives us information and keeps us updated-though it is absolutely right. But what is wrong in this is that we now no more want to put efforts in learning things. We think that why to pressure our minds when we have this smart gadget with us. We can ask for anything and anytime we want. But are we doing the right thing??
Everytime asking google the things we should keep in our minds makes our memory weak. We never thinks to remember the right information we should have in our minds, we just google things that are not so unknown to us.
We have made ourselves habitual to internet. Asking for each and everything from internet is not so necessary or are not so thoughtful of the fact that how it is affecting our brain in a wrong way.
How Smartphones Destroy Your Focus
Smartphones are well known to provide us with general knowledge. But what it does to our concentration, we are not aware of it or maybe we are not ready to accept it. Nowadays everything is available on internet that’s why we don’t want to work hard but it is not a long term step.
Losing concentration from important work everytime a notification pops up has become a common trend nowadays. You will see that even kids and teenagers have become a part of this. This affects our concentration in a very bad way which should not be neglected because it can also have an adverse effect on our health and mind. Waiting for a notification since a long time also makes us loose our concentration from the work we are doing. We need to be aware of this fact and try to cope up with it. It also results in anxiety, stress etc in some individual.
The Social Media Brain Trap
Social media, firstly initiated to bring fun in lives of people is now more of a distraction in our lives. The mornings which before used to start with greetings, exercises and refreshing activities are now replaced with checking of what’s new in social media? What new messages have I got? What’s happened over the night? Is there something I’m missing on? The nights are spent with doom scrolling, endless chatting etc.
The effects of social media aren’t just limited to mental burnout but also creates a sense of comparison in lives of people creating insecurities and multiple adverse thoughts in our mind. Seeing the lives of influencers, their Greek god like features as in facial features, body figure, lifestyle, the plenty of money they spend so easily, all this makes majority of audience feel comparatively insecure of their lifestyle and features, not knowing that most of the things which people see on internet are not even real. All these disparities not only make the people feel lower of themselves but also results in building of anguishment, irritation and slowly eats our brain.
Physical Effects You Are Ignoring
Most of the people don’t know how the using of smartphones for long hours is gonna affect them physically. The results aren’t visible in time span of weeks and months but of years. The long screen time spent directly results in weakening of our eyesight and may result in serious complications too if ignored brutally. In addition to this it also affects our sleep schedule adversely. The long hours spent during day time results in lack of sleep at night and we unaware of this, for getting sleep again refer back to using phones not knowing it is the core reason we’re unable to sleep. It also strains our neck and body posture over time.
Are Smartphones Making Kids Less Intelligent?
While many of us think smartphones are making kids smart we must admit to the fact that in the process it’s also making the children more sensitive, irritated, dependent on internet for smallest of tasks, and result in mental irritation to quite a high core.
How to Take Back Control
Mobile phones are just a mere distraction in our lives. The potential we hold is much more than this distraction, and we must realize this as soon as possible. The addiction smartphones hold has adverse effects not just physically but also mentally. But the addiction can be removed by taking control on ourselves.
Steps to move out of this loophole-
Parents should look after their kid’s phones in order to keep them away from the side effects the long screen time holds. They should let the kids have the smartphones for a specific duration with proper guidance.
Screen time should be limited for every individual so that they can put more efforts in ground work rather than doom scrolling.
Only the apps which we use for work purpose should be installed instead of apps we use for entertainment.
Sleep schedule should be maintained to keep ourselves stress free and energetic the whole day. Phones keeps our mind distracted most of the times.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The devices, though invented for our convenience has now become a medium of distraction. The youth needs to understand that their lives does not revolve around this small gadget. There is much more in their lives to do rather than spending hours on these devices. There are certain crimes also taking place through these devices. All we need to do is be aware of what we are using and why we are using it. When we think in the right direction, all these things itself becomes easy and helps us become successful. To get successful, we need to think over these distractions in order to not left behind in the race.
